Online dating is fun, but it can be terrifying. We’ve all experienced the feeling of meeting someone for the first time and wondering WHY they’ve directed you to a random dingy bar (cue texts to all your friends with the address and name of date).
Worryingly, crime against those on dating apps is on the rise as they increase in popularity. The UK’s National Crime Agency said that rapes linked to online dating rose from 33 in 2009 to 184 in 2014, and they’re still growing.
But one dating app is doing what most others don’t and helping women - and men - to feel safe when they meet someone new, by conducting a background check on everyone who signs up.
Gatsby, a new swiping-based mobile dating app, uses profile information to search publicly available databases which include criminal records and sex offender registries. The aim is to make you feel safer online, and monthly rescans ensure that no-one slips through the net. FULL ARTICLE
